My cat’s veterinarian recommended that I get a tall rope scratching post, one that my cat can really stretch out to reach the top, and this one fills that prescription fine. And, the cat went right for it and continues to use it regularly and frequently. He loves to run and leap up onto the post. Its weighted base is ample to keep it from tipping over even under that kind of cat attack. Other posts I have seen have wimpy twine wound around them. On this post, though, the sisal rope is thick and coarsely textured, which lets the cat really get his claws dug in for the surface abrasion he needs to keep them sharp. There was no need to attach a springy play-toy to the post-top to attract my cat, although there is a hole in the top to accomplish that. The catnip scent on this post was all that was needed to attract my cat, and he’s been “hooked” on using it since the day it came out of the box. Another plus to this post is that it appears that it would be a simple matter to replace the rope with new, once the cat has torn the original one to shreds. I recommend this to anyone who wants to keep their cat clawed and happy and keep him from tearing up furniture or carpeting in the house.
